Our bibliographic mission, should we choose to accept it, has to do with reconstituting recorded human knowledge so that it can be recognized. And re-recognized.

Reconstituting things that themselves persist over time. That have coherence. That scale well when numbers start to climb.

We’re in a bibliographic universe, but some really tend to get confused because so there are so many words everywhere. Literally. Words. Those reassembled bits of the alphabet which are chunked up, combined, flying through space.

But the mere presence of many words appearing together does not make a bibliographic universe, or anything like it.

It’s that reluctance to acknowledge-the-domain problem again.

p.s. FRBR to the rescue
