Descriptors are useful for organizing things. Like information. Assigning associations to something.

Absolutely nothing new there. I will mention the ever-so-much-maligned “c” words: Cataloguing. Classification.

The underlying tenets of these activities which categorize (another c word) are profound.

Human beings have a need to establish relationships and associations between and among things, especially when things start to amass.

Humans are the ultimate pattern recognition machines. We cannot stop doing it, no matter what it is called. No matter what tag it is given.

This is the phenomenon under observation and study and which is of the most compelling professional interest. That these professional activities are anathema in some circles remains a mystery.
