Kindling for kindles August 15, 2010

Ok, amazon figures say ebooks are outselling hardbacks. But I really don’t see this as too difficult.

For example, romance novels are big sellers on amazon, and I don’t think most of these are even issued as hardcovers. Those readers would have been purchasing paperbacks previously.

A quick look in the kindle store (US site) indicates there are over 31,800 romance titles — way more than the 20,500 thriller/mystery category available as kindle titles!

In short, the romance genre is huge.

So as ebooks these would find a big readership, especially when you factor in that a lot of romance reading is done surreptitiously. It’s so easy to press the “buy” button and have your next book (or three) downloaded without further ado.
